Accessing and downloading data#

General#

The mOTUs genome database (mOTUs db) provides access to genome sequences, genes, and annotations for nearly 4 million genomes. All data in the mOTUs database is licensed under CC BY 4.0 and is freely accessible via:

  • Manual download: Available through the motus-db.org web interface.

  • Bulk access: Available via our FTP server.

  • The mOTUs tool: Using the motus genomes and motus download commands, which allows users to search for and download genomes based on functional or taxonomic annotations.

Access to mOTUs datasets#

Genomes, Genes and annotations#

Manual Access: Navigate to a specific genome page (e.g., ACIN21-1_SAMN05421555_MAG_00000001) to download files individually.

Programmatic Access: Use the motus genomes command to perform rule-based searches by taxonomy or function. See the Tutorial for detailed usage instructions.

Bulk Access: The entire collection is available via our FTP.

Gene Catalogs#

The gene catalogs represent clusters generated at different identity levels in both protein and nucleotide space, encompassing all genes found in the mOTUs 4.1 genomes.
